Hi- I have had this toadstool for 9 months. It has grown to be 4 times bigger than when I got it. About 2 weeks ago, it stopped opening. Pictures are attached - one from a few months ago, and today. I have read that they do this, but this is the first time and it just doesn’t look right. Everything else is doing fine - no changes in corals or livestock. I did add soda ash and use some Aiptasia X around the same time, but this guy has tolerated that in the past with no trouble at all. Any information would be great! Thanks

hi, looks like normal molt... :)

Pretty normal for these guys. It has some algae on it, but when it fully sheds it will be fine. No black tissue, no peeling away. I have had one close up for 4 months. They can be quite dramatic at times. Probably a safe bet that your water quality changed somewhat. They are good indicators of minor changes.
Also, iodine is a supplement softies need.

if its the only thing thats unhappy, and everything else is happy, and nothing at all has changed in the tank, then in my opinion I say just leave it alone. I've corals go into bad moods for weeks without any reason, they always come back. As long as a coral is not melting it will be fine.

Great to hear and thanks very much. I feel relieved and will check into the iodine. What’s the best way to do that? Does it take an ICP test?

It will show in an ICP test. I guess I have never measured it. Huh. Maybe will look into that. :)
I just throw a dose in every now and then when I think about it. Only if I have not done a water change in like 4 months though. I usually do, so no need to add more.
I guess just some people do more water changes than others and if you haven't for a long time, iodine is a good one to supplement.
Hope I did not confuse you there. Sometimes my thinking is a bit crazy and scattered. Long Covid sucks!
