Have had my tank up and running for over a year. Switched from LPS to soft corals because I love the natural movement of soft corals. Have mushrooms, neon green sinularia, and lots of toadstools. Have had these three toadstools for over a year and they have all grown a lot. My Tyree neon green polyp toadstool started off the size of a pinto bean and has grown triple the size in a year. Has shed numerous times and always is open and lovely. Yesterday was admiring how pretty it was and today it is legit crumbling from the top
I panicked and tried to turkey baster it to see if it would shed but it’s not shiny on top like usual and small pieces blew off. I’m upset because I do routine weekly 3-5 gallon water changes (20 gallon tank, low nutrients always) and the parameters are always fine. It’s strange because it over night decided to rot? And disintegrate. Checked my parameters again:
Salinity the usual 1.025
Nitrite is undetectable
Nitrate not quite detectable
Temp ranges from 77-79
Ph 8.1
Nothing has changed at all. Don’t have algae issues, only have one clown and one goby. All the other corals look amazing.
Have marine orbit light they have always done well with.
Does anyone have any idea how a toadstool can randomly crumble and die? I’m not giving up on it it’s one of my favorite corals but it does not look good. I’m not new but not extra experienced and could use some ideas thanks! I haven’t seen any pests that could harm it. Like I said it’s been doing amazing for over a year!
