Hi everyone,

This is my first ever toadstool and I was wondering what might be the problem?

2969605592995995689%253Faccount_id%253D1

He's been open a few times but then closes almost after a min or so. He's super shriveled and I don't know what else to do :(

ph 8.2
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5ppm

Any help would be great!

One of mine looked like that. Because it's a softie, I thought it needed less flow, but that wasn't the case. I put it in a place with higher flow and some of the polyps started opening up after a few days.

+1 to more flow. They'll close up like that & shed their skin periodically. So more flow helps with that, along with making it's polyps hang out in the flow. Since it sounds like you just got it, leathers can take a few days for it to adjust.

Ok just moved him up the rock wall and into some good light/current. Lets see how he does. Fingers crossed!

I've had him for a month now lol. I'm new the the tank game and he was my 2nd coral in the tank lol.

If it's been closed for a while, it might take a week or more for you to start seeing it open up. Just make sure to give it enough flow as if it were an sps. Good luck! [emoji6]

Mine done the same thing until I changed placement and put it in an area of direct flow of my power head. Now it stays open all the time. Loving toadstool's. This is my first one and looking for more.

So after the move to the top of the tank and near the wave maker he's much happier!

Yes more light and flow will help. Just remember they grow fast and get large so place it knowing it will cast a shadow and block the flow from whats under it.

What about other parameters? I have heard that they react poorly to phosphate reducers with aluminium in them. Is it glossy looking up close?
