Hi everyone I'm looking for advice on my toadstool, brought it as a neon green 2 inch frag, but its gone a horrible purple colour, its never grown and polyps only show a tiny bit. I've had it for 18 months now and its so frustrating, tried all flow options, hi and low in the tank with no luck. Anyone know the simple answer to this colour change and why its shrinking?

Its the only coral alongside gsp that I cant keep.

2 year old reefer 250

Chaeto refugium - kessil h80
ATI essentials pro

PO4 0.04
NO3 0.02

Purple tang - 2 ocellaris clowns - chalk goby - coral beauty - bicolour blenny - scooter blenny - peacock wrasse - carpenters flasher wrasse - royal gramma

Your parameters look fine, what other corals do you have that are doing ok? A picture of the leather would be helpful as well as a full tank shot.

Hey Josh,

only thing that stands out to me is the low Nitrate. Is it really 0.02? What test-kit do you use?

If that’s the case, maybe low nitrate is your problem. Leathers seem to do better with nutrients in the water.

Also do you have a pic of it and a full tank shot so we can see placement and close up of tissue?

To much light? Leathers can be touchy with LEDs, they are not a good blue light coral, mine do well around 14k

A picture would help a lot, is everything else doing okay? Do you feed your corals? I agree maybe too much light or not enough nutrients, but we'll see what it looks like.

That is exactly what I was gonna say. He need "food"

Mine great under LEDs. The one thing they must have is a low level of iron but mainly water movement.
Try some gentle blasts with a turkey baster and check it in an hour or two. If it looks better, you know it is lack of water movement over it

Lots of flow, iodide 0.03-0.06.
