ok so Ive had a few people day this is Japanese Toadstool, weeping willow and some just says its some sort of long polyp toad stool. I want to get some more opinions and see what yall think? It These are three different colonies. The bottom one is more neon than the other two so maybe its different? I got it from a guy who was breaking down his tank and got a butch of coral (plus the tank) for a super good deal. He does not know what kind of leather it is tho.

Looks like a green leather toadstool
How do these differ from weeping willow or Japanese toadstool? I frankly can't tell that much of a difference. I know its all a name game but I plan on propagating some of these guys later down the line and rather the name now than later

OG Weeping Willow on left.
Metalic Green Long Polyp in middle
Toxic Weeping Willow on right

Weeping willows I’ve seen are pink or pinkish

This is a photo given to me by a friend a while back when he was importing (Wanting to import) coral from japan.

Sorry the photos aren’t very good they are supposed to be from a Japanese stock list. So it’s like if a photo of a photo.

Those are the variety of toadstools offered by the Japanese supplier.
I see! Well they are just settling in. I think the big guy is probably not one of those but not sure about the little guy I have that has not opened up yet. He is a really deep green and had fairly long tenticals when I saw him in the tank prior to moving it but only time will tell at this point.

all of that is of course a matter of opinion. But like the metallic green Kenya tree often called a Japanese Kenya tree it seems the neon greens are associated with Japan. Again. Opinion. In the end you’ve got a species of Sarcophyton that is unique and beautiful. Name it George and it will still look the same. Personally I prefer family and species names over fancy ones but that’s just me

Totally agree, I feel like the name game is pretty overrated but still like to know what is in my tank.
