Toadstool Leather and Brown Jelly disease

I'm battling BJD and am wondering if my leather can get the disease. It wasn't opened fully in quite some time. I attached a picture.

Please advise and Thank you so much.

I would blow water over it with a Turkey baister...blow off anything that is irritating it...it will heal in a week or two ..
