Toadstool leather coral

hey reefers need help I have a toadstool leather coral I got and it looks like it’s not doing to good. My question really is that it is glued to a frag plug but it looks like it’s no glued right

one thing with toadstools is that they normally attach to a plug or rock on their own. there's no need to really glue them. hopefully, someone with more experience will chime in. calling to the #reefsquad

Most of my leathers closed up for a few days (or even more than a month) when I've moved them into a new tank. They can be finicky and don't like change very much. The glue shouldn't matter as long as it's not on it's polyps really. How long have you had it?

Toadstools and certain other soft corals should not be glued down. It actually makes them more upset and likely to not survive. I know with mushrooms they make special boxes you can put the mushroom in with rock rubble and wait for it to attach and with toadstools its recommended to attach them to an rock with either a rubber band or tie them to the rock with fishing line. Trying to glue it back on will only upset it more.

So my question is that it is already glued to a frag plug should I try to remove him from the glue or what should I do?

If they ripped it off from a rock and glued it to the frag disc then I can see why it's not too happy. Might just take a few more days for it to bounce back.

Mine came on a little rock and it was fully open the next day.

If hes already partially attached, turn down the flow and let him be, itll reattach on it's own. Trying to remove him or reattach it somewhere else will only stress it out more.

I would just leave it and let it adjust. Did you buy it glued or did you glue it on? Have seen it open or did you get it online?

I've made many (50+?) toadstool frags and have done it both ways (glue/rubberband), and I haven't lost a frag. I would say that if they glued it and it's not actively floating away to just leave it and it will reattach itself in due time. If you feel like it is going to float off of the plug I would rubber-band it to the plug (or other rock of your choice), then remove the rubberband in a week or two.

Keep in mind that toadstools shed periodically. Sometimes this is triggered when they are moved. It's hard to say for sure without better pics.

I frag toad stools all the time. Glue is only the enemy if you glue the stalk directly to something. The softies dont react well to glue, sometimes the coral will slime up and actually come free. However, you can glue softies to plugs and rocks after the stalk has attached to rock rubble or sand or something, when this happens, most of the glue contacts the substrate or rock and not the actual flesh of the coral.

In the case of your frag, I would put it lower in the tank, let it re adjust, and it should come back.

Still i would leave it. Only if you notice the flesh starting to rot would I suggest something drastic. Was the coral open when you bought it?

Toadstools are very hardy. I think it's just adjusting to the new tank. Like others have said, it's very normal for toadstools to close up for long periods of time during shedding. I've fragged a good amount of toadtstools and other leathers, and never had a problem with them being glued.
Where do you have the frag it in your tank? Too much light will also cause it to close up. Polyps will slowly come out again as it adjust to the new light.
