Hello, I purchased this Neon Toadstool Leather 4 days ago. For the first 2 days he opened up great, even started opening up as I put him in the tank. But since yesterday he has been closed. My water was dusty with lots of particles for some reason so I did a water change. Was hoping it would open up this morning but he hasn’t. His foot/trunk looks a little slanted and the top part of the leather is shiny. Usually the branch is straight and no wrinkles or lines. What could be wrong with him?? This is my first coral so I’m a little paranoid ahah

I would get used to it...

they are super temperamental and they seem do it almost on a schedule of some kind too in my opinion..

if its like that for days and days I would be concerned maybe

the branch changes its water volume I thin and makes it slant sometimes...
the shininess is normal too

It is getting ready to shed. That’s the shinnyness you see. Completely normal. I’ve had mine go weeks before they finally shed. Be sure you have them in good flow. This helps with the shedding process.

I turned up the flow and he shed his skin! His polyps are extended now and he looks fine except he is leaning. He’s leaning quite a lot and I don’t know why, I lowered the flow and he still isn’t standing up. Also on the bottom of the leathers foot, there is these white rock like things you can see them in the pictures, what is that? Is that something to worry about? How can I make the leather stand up??

My mini colony did this when I first put it in the tank too. They open the little arms when they are ready. Mine dont have their little arms (as I call them) up all the time and are super healthy/ even growing a new head! I wouldnt worry about it yet.

I've had a leather in my tank 12 months and it's NEVER popped. It stands up in the day and wilts at night. But it has never opened. Plenty of flow and now plenty of light (hydra32) Hopefully the light makes a difference
This is my opinion but of all the tanks I have seen (including one of mine) with big toadstools, it seems like a dirty tank (high nutrients)... one of my tanks that has 18 fish and has a ton of soft coral including a very large toadstool that grew from a frag has like 50 Nitrates and 1.0 Phosphates, but maybe its just a very adaptable animal and just needs it to be constant, not sure :)
