Toadstool Leather Question

Hi, so I have this green toadstool leather that appears to be splitting into two pieces with a noticeable seam along the stalk of it. My question is in regards to the best way of cutting it so that I can give the smaller piece to my friend. Would it be alright to just slice along the seam and cut the stalk close to the rock? Or is there a better way? FYI, The rock is removable so I will not be performing this inside the tank. Any suggestions? Thanks.
