Hello R2R,

I have a question. I have a Toadstool Mushroom Leather Coral that I got from LiveAquaria that started off as 4 inches in diameter and now it is 11 inches in diameter. I need to frag this thing but don't know how. when I look at how huge it has become i often thing only if i had a lawn mower because it look like it needs mowing because of how long the polyps are (if that what they are called).
the stallk underneath it is about 7 inches in diameter and it is stuck to the rocks. If there is any fragging going to happen it will have to be done inside the tank. it is so big that some of its polyps are turn brown because they don't get enough light. this thing is growing and its the fastest growing coral in the tank. I wish I had this problem with acropora but i don't.

1.)First of does it have any poison? don't wanna cut if it does.
2.) Should I try to pull it out of the water?the stalk will more than likely rip apart because its on the rocks good.
3.) Can I just cut pieces and places it in other areas of the tank? Thanks for your help.

P.s
I will try to post pics later.

You can take some scissors and cut triangles out of the cap. Then place them in a plastic dish with rubble in it inside the tank with a screen mesh covering the top secure it with a rubberband. They are not poisonous but can release a somewhat toxic slime coat that can annoy other corals so make sure you run carbon for a few days after fragging. Hope this helps.

Happy reefing

GUys thank you so much my toadstool is bigger than the one the gent had in the video but it seems very easy to frag and I just put carbon in when I performed my water change on Saturday. I am going to try to frag this
big boy tonight. @VSVP bet thanks for the vid it was awesome.

I have been in the same boat. My only concern with Fragging my toadstool is it will look silly with a chunk cut out of it.

mine will have to look silly because it has grown very big. and it is overshadowing stuff underneath. i just ordered frag plugs from brs.

P.S
I plan on cutting several chunks lol.

Just to add some advice, I just fragged my neon green willow toadstool. It was getting really big and wasnt self fragging. I used scissors to cut around the toadstool on a day i do a normal water change and changed my carbon cartridge.

I initially rubber banded the frags on a plug. However, a couple days later i noticed the frags were falling apart as the bands were too tight and the frags were splitting.

I then tried to glue to frags That was a huge mistake, after about a day, they started falling off.

At this point, ive been torturing these frags, i decided to go back to the rubberband method but this time i made them really loose, like barely holding the frags loose. If you do this, once u put the frag back in the water, they will expand and the band will hold them in place. Its been a week and so far every frag has stayed in place. Hopefully this helps anyone thinking of doing this.

You can literally cut the rim off witch scissors or a razor blade. Rubber band the pieces (gently) on to small rocks, and a new coral will grow.
Wow...awesome educational video...how long did you have them out of the water?

just curious how much do toadstool frags go for?

Funny about ripping stalks.

my urchin somehow ripped the head off my toadstool, and I thought he had actually just maybe removed the whole thing (the superglue I used to glue it down)

but I guess it ripped.

Now I have new polyps growing from the tiny bit of stalk that had been left over....

I barely wanted 1 toadstool.

now I have 2 hahaha
