i have a green polyp toadstool that has been looking less than healthy the past couple weeks and it looks like the flesh is coming off the edges...here's a pic I just took...what could be going on? I won't have any water parameters until tomorrow but I have multiple other lps and softies in the tank and this is the only one that looks bad.
Well, apparently shedding is a natural reoccurring event. I have a toadstool about a foot across and I swear it's never shed. Has your chemistry changed or your flow? Mine tends to like low indirect flow.
I'll have to check the chemistry tomorrow, the only thing that I can think of that changed was I set a bristle worm trap and had some lps food deteriorate for a couple days and then I put a shrimp in it and left that for a day. I've done two water changes since then.
Gotcha, they tend to tolerate nutrients, so if your LPS are unaffected, I can't imagine it would affect your toadstool. Any chance of coral warfare; no sweeper tentacles or anything making contact?
Do the polyps extend during the day? They seem to be pretty resilient; I stripped my system of nutrients in the past and it went bone white for weeks then colored back up when the nutrients returned.
Turns out I've been overdosing for months and not realizing it.
My whole tank has been affected but I had no idea why because my test kit was faulty.
My mag and cal were off the charts and I had no idea. So make sure you test! It is finally starting to make a comeback so I'm sure you're can too
I don't dose anything to this tank, just water changes and feeding
I just tested the water and the results were normal
pH: 8.3
Nitrate: 0
Alk: 10.5
Calc: 415
Mag: 1230
Should I do some sort of fresh water or iodine dip?
