Recently the past couple of nights, I’ve been up all night because I’ve been studying and doing schoolwork. That’s besides the point.
My toadstool opens and closes all night. It’s like a cycle, every other hour I’ll see it closed then open and it repeats. But, during the daytime it stays open with polyps out which is good. I’m not worried about this whatsoever but just very curious on why this happens? Thanks!

Possibly reacting to a light source. It detects a little light and sends them out. I go with my flashlight and some specimens react fast, some do nothing and some react a few minutes afterwards by waking up and going back to sleep.

Didn’t know it could react to any normal light. I do sometimes shine my phone flashlight on my tank to just look at night, that explains it

I love reef watching at night. I have seen things that I have never seen before nor again. I watched a 12" siphonofore disintegrate into a thousand pieces when a Stenopus grabbed it.
