You could cut him off the rock if your worries about that. Shouldn't be an issue. Also, you can see the polyps on its head still. He's just ticked off about something, I'd just leave him alone after I removed it from that rock. find him another good spot and not touch him for awhile, moving them around just makes it worse.

Nope, just like fraggin him. Just tick him off a bit, but won't kill him.

I'm having a similar problem. Got a small green toadstool leather frag a couple weeks ago. It opened within hours and has been doing great since, until yesterday when it didn't open. Again today, it didn't open at all the polyps are fully retracted and the surface is smooth. It's not deteriorating that I can tell. My tank is only a few weeks old so I wonder if water quality is an issue; however, all my other corals are looking great. I tested the water and my nitrate is 0.5 (NH4 and NO2- both zero), pH 8.2 and steady. The one thing that seems off is my alk. I started dosing B-Ionic two part for the past three days. My calcium has gone up from 275 to 320 mg/L in that time, and my alkalinity from 10.2 to 11.2 (a bit high as I understand it). Could the high alkalinity be causing the sarcophyton not to open?

Its probably cleaning it self if you look at the surface is going to look like if it had wax on top a shiny film somtimes their like that for a few days and then u see the film falling off and some times they even open bigger than before my problem is different its not cleaning is shrinking but today it looks better i brought it out of the direct light

I wouldn't worry about it honestly just make sure they aren't getting stung by anything arnt getting blasted by light/water and they will sort it out themselves I've had one for well over a year and it always bounces back from whatever upset it

You know i think your right about the light blasting i had it way high on the rocks and maybe the leds where to high for it cause when i brought it down it started to look a little better

I have leds turned up to full blues and 70% whites at max I used to have it about two thirds of the way up and it never fully opened then moved it to the bottom and it spread out all the way with full extension of its polyps/base though it's still relatively moody and will shrink and expand whenever it feels like

Yes i have them at 100% blues and about 80% whites it ws opening beautifully and huge but i q
Guess he got tired of it let's see how he behaves down on the substrate will post a pic in a few days to see how its doing hopefully it will shape up love that coral

Here's an old pick from it up closer to the top idk if you can tell but the middle is sunken in pretty far and the polyps arnt extended/open all the way I know it's under all blue but it's all I had and I flipped the whites off to take the picture so despite the colors that's how it looked physically

Here's one of where it is now fully extended

Heres a pic is about maybe a month old

Awesome! I think lowering it some would help it tremendously but who knows for sure the only way to find out is to do it and see make sure u post back results after a couple days and post a pic best of luck you! I love the giant green Devils hand btw!
