I think my temp is a bit low, but I’ll credit that to having an open window in that room overnight. It is still pretty cold here in Vermont but my tank wasn’t doing so well with the level of CO2 we had here. I think I have finally got my numbers to balance out a bit. Any advice?

Temp 73.4°
Salt 1.023
dKH 10.9
Calcium 487
Alkalinity 181
Phosphate 0.00?
Ph 7.63

What are you checking your phosphate with? Also, what about nitrates?

I just got a new tester from Hanna. I’m wondering if I screwed it up. It was the first time I used it.
And you just reminded me – I totally forgot about the nitrates! I will do that when I go home I just had to leave for work.

Is it the Hanna url? The green one? If so that is parts per billion (ppb). I made myself a small laminated cheat sheet that has the conversion to parts per million (ppm). And I write both down when I am keeping track. I will see if I can find the sheet. I'll be back.

Yes! It is the green one! I would LOVE your cheat sheet if you have the time!

I can't claim the converter cheat sheet. I found it online, I apologise to whoever made it for not giving them credit. Who knows if it's very accurate. But the excel sheet I put together. I can't upload the excel sheet, but I can email it to you if you pm me your email address, or you can recreate it on your own computer. Dates across the top. That way you can compare and watch the trend. If you use the excel sheet, you could make graphs and really nerd out[emoji851]

Oh yea the ideal range is that 2nd column.
But that's kinda opinion based...

This is awesome! Thank you so much! If you don’t mind I will send you my email so I CAN totally geek out!

Assuming that 181 for alkalinity is in ppm, your alkalinity in dKH is around 10.1. I'm not sure why there is a dKH and alkalinity measurement (dKH is a unit of alkalinity).

Well crap. I bought the two testing kits assuming they were for different things.

I learned something new... I thought there was dkh. I had no clue you could measure it in ppm.

[emoji23] I'm sorry. But that's awesome. Pick one and use the other as a backup. Lol. Sounds like something I would do! See if someone would trade the other for a nice kit to test something else like iodine orcopper for a QT. Or some backup meds or nori clips or a spare powerhead or a battery backup... clearly there a lot of thing that would be handy to have and I want but won't buy. If I had a spare tester to get rid of, I would totally trade for something else I may need in the future.

Yes 181 converts to 10.1 dkh, just multiply by .056,
Phosphates ulr checker I think you multiply by 3.066 and then divide by a thousand but most just use a multiple of three. 10 turns into .03, 20 turns into .06 and so on, which is pretty close considering the accuracy of our test kits.

Did you buy them at the same time from the same place?

No overtime. Through Bulk Reef Supply. One is labeled alkalinity and one is labeled DKH, so I thought they were different things.
Oh well. I guess I have an extra test kit, or eventually I will swap somebody for something. I have open the both. And now used the alkalinity one once. So it is opened

The good news is that the reagents are one in the same so you can use them in either kit.
