...won't properly autofocus on Nikon D90 body. I've tried on a tripod, with the timer, etc., and can't seem to get a good focus through the glass. Any suggestions on how to set the focus mode, etc.? The focus looks OK through the viewfinder but when I put the SD card in the computer it is not as sharp.

Are you shooting straight into the glass? If you shoot at an angle the glass blurs the photo.

Angled vertically but I suppose its still angled. I'll try straight-on. I've only had the lens a few days so still getting the hang of things.

And manual focus is usually better. Auto focus will try to focus on things you don't want it to at times.

Other than focus, the depth of field isn't very good unless I stop down but then get blur. White balance options on the d90 don't return out very well, washing out colors. Finally, pics tend to turn out over exposed. What type of metering mode do people use? For white balance do people set with gray cards, use a preset, or rely on post processing? Depth of field I can resolve with a tripod but then do you use spot focusing or another type of autofocus?
