I am adding an hang-on overflow w/ a new sump to my tank. I am doing all sorts of things to make sure it doesn't overflow if the siphon breaks or pump fails or something... I bought the Neptune Flow Monitoring Module (FMM) so I can monitor from anywhere to make sure the water is all flowing like it is supposed to. However, I was also told to mount an Aqua Lifter to the overflow siphon tube, so it can re-start the siphon if it every breaks.
My question is this, is the Neptune Solenoid the same thing? They are both just solenoid valves, right? If so, the Apex product is significantly cheaper and since it connects to my Apex power bar, it doesn't have its own separate power supply (theoretically uses less energy...). I am thinking through Apex I could program it to only run the solenoid when it determines flow has stopped or slowed from the overflow box, so it isn't running constantly.
Has anyone else used the Apex solenoid instead of the Aqua Lifter?
