We've had our tank set up for about 3 months now. We have a Tomini that looks sick, but we haven't been able to identify what is wrong through internet searching or with our LFS. He had a small cut on his side. A few days later we saw signs of small white dots that looked like ich. We began feeding MetroPlex (he still eats a lot). Around 5 days later he began getting white cotton patches on his face that looked like fungus. We went to our local store and they told us to try Kanaplex. We have been feeding that for around 5 days. The large white patches are gone, but he now has what looks like blisters or welts on his face. It also looks like his fins are worn and he has dark patches on his body. He is very hard to take pictures of, but in this image you can see the dark patch on his side as well as the bubbling in his face. Has anyone had experience with this? We are trying to identify and find the best treatment for a reef tank. We've had him for a couple of months and the only thing we have added to our tank in the last month are corals and a couple of hermit crabs. All of our other fish in the tank have been doing fine. Our water parameters are ammonia-0, nitrite-0, nitrate- 20 (working on lowering now), salinity-1.024, temp- 79. Thanks!

The cottony things were probably lymphocystis. It's a harmless virus. But it is brought on by something stressing the fish's immune system.
Sounds like your fish has a bacterial infection. For tangs, NFG powder works the best.

Thanks so much for the help. I ended up doing a freshwater dip tonight since he wasn't responding to either of the meds we were using. He had a ton of small rice looking things come out of him that I'm guessing are flukes from looking online. I think he may have developed a bacterial infections as a result. I'd never heard of flukes until tonight so I'm not sure how to treat beyond the dip or what his prognosis is. I'm also surprised that none of my other fish are having any issues. Again, thanks for the response!

You might want to try a FW dip on your other fish. You might be surprised. The bad part is that if the other fish have flukes, they'll all need to be treated and the tank goes fallow for 4 weeks: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/fallow-periods-going-fishless.190324/
or the fish will need to be treated with a praziquantel product like Prazipro. It is relatively reef safe. You may have a die off in the tank of any bristleworms or feather dusters.

Oh dang. I don't think all of my fish will fit comfortably in my 29 gallon QT even for a short period of time. I have two tangs, two clowns, an eel, a hawkish, and a blenny. Maybe this is the perfect time to convince my boyfriend we need another tank lol.

You can treat all of the fish you listed in the display tank with Prazipro to treat for flukes. It is reef safe except for any bristleworms or feather dusters.
