Hello. I recently got a Tomini tang delivered 4 days ago, and there may be some problems. He has some discolouration, along with these black blotches. I will show a pic, but can get a better one tonight when the blue light is off. I do have kanaplex on hand I could add in the food. Could this just be a stress thing? He is still a bit timid, but has been eating.

Looks like a rash or injury but need to confirm. Please and moving forward post any pics under white light intensity for clear assessment. The fish I can tell you will need to be placed in separate tank and treated with broad spectrum antibiotic. Seachem Kanaplex will work best

I don’t believe I will be able to get a qt set up. Could I mix the Kanaplex into the food?

No and not recommended. Only safe med is Ruby Rally Pro and not as quick or effective as Kanaplex. A quarantine tank can be as simple as a tank from a second hand store, a rubbermaid type tub or a starter kit from Walmart which most of the needed essentials.

I got ruby rally pro, should I mix in food or directly in tank?

Clear pictures under white light is needed, and a video might show us even more.

So many fish issues have similar symptoms, we need every advantage in order to narrow down the issue. This post explains all that:

Wish pic was closer but does look like scrapes and injuries over bacterial but has potential to get infected. With that, At minimum, add Ruby rally pro allowing fish to heal and remain in display tank.
Best is Seahem Kanaplex as mentioned earlier in a separate tank .
What other occupants are in tank and how do they look (if applies) ?
Any aggression from other occupant you have moticed?

All other fish, clown pair, Melanurus wrasse, falco hawkfish, and valentini puffer look good, and I have not seen any aggression from them. I believe the tang MAY have been delivered like this. This picture could help a little better.

That sure looks like something from tankmate aggression - could have happened before you got the fish, but fish can be pretty sly, and if it gets worse, one of your own fish would be suspected.

I think the decision you’ll need to make is to just feed it well and see if it recovers in your tank OR move it to a treatment tank and treat it with a broad spectrum gram negative antibiotic like Neoplex or maybe kanaplex. Moving the fish to treat it increases the stress to the fish.
