Tomini Tang - Mouth Infection

Hey all

So after getting this guy into the tank the last couple of weeks he’s developed a mouth infection (not sure if it was linked to the initial bacterial infection he had when I got him)

he is still eating fine but does seem to hide a bit more then before. Still picks at all the rocks, eats marine grazer, nori and frozen foods.

anyone had a similar issue and it resolve itself without intervention or am I pulling this apart to get him out and treat it?

Definitely bacterial, mouth rot. Since he is eating fine I'd add Furan2 + neoplex + kanaplex + focus binds these medication to the fish food making it reef safe. Feed 2 x 14 days. Start there and keep an eye on it.

Thanks! In Australia most of those are very hard to get a hold of as I have to import them what would be a good interim or the best one to use if I can’t get all 3?

Awesome and how do I feed? Defrost frozen food and add it to the water, let it soak then feed?

Defrost food. vitamin rich foods is ideal when administering medications. I add selcon or zoecon plus garlic guard to help entice the fish to eat and mask the taste of medications.

You essentially add 1 scoop of each medication into one tablespoon of frozen fish food works best.

Awesome and it will probably be atleast 1-2 weeks before it arrives anything I can do in the meantime? Just keep hoping he eats haha

Do you have any medications on you now? Maybe check what your LFS carry on hand and then go from there.

Aus is terrible for fish medications unfortunately ... I things I could only get now would be tri sulfa, tetracycline, Melafix and Primafix none of which I think would really help other then tri sulfa but would need to catch him

Triple Sulfa works well on injuries, swellings, etc. and is a wide spectrum antibiotic.

I've used this combination with pretty good success. But, Seachem does not recommend it as they both treat wide spectrum and they believe it would stress the fish's immune system too much.

Thanks can tri sulfa be used in the DT or can I mix that with food or best used as a water treatment?

I did read that seachem don’t advise using those two together so I was thinking of using Kanaplex for the first course then trying sulfaplex after if it didn’t improve

Can't recommend a wide spectrum antibiotic like Triple Sulfa to be used in a DT. It "can" be used for internal treatments issues when bound with Focus in a QT.
Antibiotics work best absorbed through the skin of fish.

Okay great thanks I check him this morning and he is full of life eating like a pig so I think my best bet is to not stress him out and wait for Kanaplex and focus to arrive and give him a course through food

UPDATE
He’s doing much better the last two days, noticeable improvement on his mouth and he’s been very active eating like a pig and happy. Hopefully he recovers on his own. Meds are still incoming might see how he is and give him a course anyway as there is still the little infection on his body which meds might help with. Hard to get good pics with him darting around
