toms aqua lifter pre filter

I have a cpr overflow with the toms aqua lifter and the pre filter. My problem is the pre filter I'm going through them like crazy! if I clean the pad that is inside the pre filter it doesn't work the same. like the filter pad gets squished down and doesn't fill the container anymore. Is there anything else I can use besides the toms aqua lifter? Just don't trust it, even with the pre filter.

I ripped mine out as well. You can use a powerhead instead, one with an airline attachment to use it as a siphon.
