So this is weird. The last two times I have been on vacation, my Tom's Aqualifter pump for my CPR overflow box has failed. This time the "failure" was odd because I pulled the tubes off to replace it but it was working at that point. So I hooked it back up and no problems.

I mean there was the same problem as last time. The housekeeper (different person this time) missed the problem, which meant that the ATO overfilled fresh water. When the siphon reasserted that sump overflowed a tad. Salinity is likely low now while the levels drop back to normal but not enough to cause any obvious stress on my soft corals.

Any theories on a user error that could negatively affect the aqualifter? Just dumb luck? No problems when I am at the helm...

Also sny ideas to counter this issue? I thought about a level indicator on the tank itself. I happened to spot the issue this time on the drive back because the nest cam view of the surface level was fantastic. But by then it was too late to turn off the ATO. It seems like a second level indicator on the tank itself might shut off the ATO and send an alarm to allow the Aqualifter/Overflow problem to be solved before turning the ATO back on?

Had mine act goofy before. Had a chuck of stuff in the end of the intake hose. Blew it back into the tank. Ran fine after that.

is it possible a siphon is being created?

maybe use a peristaltic pump or add a solenoid for redundancy
