Way back when, I bought a leather coral and an Acan -- I thought I placed them far enough apart. Suddenly, the Acan turned white and died, but the leather kept growing. After awhile, I figured I should pry the dead Acan off, but I noticed that it had started to glow a bit. After a couple months, it has regained his full color and grown. Now I'm not certain what I should do. Do I cut the leather coral? Should I attempt to move the Acan and risk losing him again? (It will involve prying him off the rock.) Should I let nature pave the way? The leather coral has grown to be about 8" wide (guesstimate). Yes, I'm aware of the the Vermetid snail and I plan on taking care of him soon.

Does the leather slime much? Do the strands of slime stick to the acan if so? I wouldn’t blame the leather unless you’ve seen it do something. I’d think an acan would win this war to be honest.

The leather sheds on occasion, but not what I would consider "often". Not slimy.

I’d watch them closely but I’d be more inclined to move the leather if possible if you think it’s to blame. I’ve seen my leathers slime and affect SPS on the opposite end of the tank. But I just make sure to run carbon and turkey baster blast off any visible slime.
