Too many fish for 30 gallon tank?

The greater concern is the CO2 buildup in the bag which reduces the pH and subsequently the amount of free ammonia.

When you open the bag co3 disspates causing the pH to rise causing a free ammonia spike.

To counter this, you can cut a small opening with a knife and add a drop of Prime/Fraction before opening the bag
The Prime will detox the ammonia.

I have an ammonia remover that’s my go to. I just put a squirt of it in, start a drip, and hope for the best. I didn’t know if too much of it can hurt the fish

I was smart enough to order all small fish. Nothing over 2 inches. And from what I’ve read on Cardinals, one of the 3 might be killed be the other 2 if a mating pair is established

Just take them out of QT 1 or 2 at a time over a month period and add them to your DT.

For my small 20 gallon high tank I use a whole bottle of the Dr. Tim's when ever I add new bio. I then cut the filters off for two days to give the bacteria time to settle. As a backup I keep a bottle of Seachem Prime.

Focus on water quality and diet and it should work out. Feed sparingly up front to prevent shocking the biological system.

Hey All!

So I kinda screwed up. I ordered 5 fish for my 30 gallon tank (Flame Hawk, 3 Bangai Cardinals, and a Prawn Goby). I was thinking it would be nice to add a couple fish to my tank, because it was somewhat boring. I currently have an ocellaris clown pair and tailspot blenny. Is this a bit overkill for bio load & aggression? I do have plenty of caves and what not, but I’m just afraid of a rogue fish or too much bioload.

I love the flame hawk. I wish I could add one to mine, but my tank is 16 gallons and have five fish. If your tank has been up and running or you used live rock, you may be fine in keeping things from spiking. My biggest concern would be watching for any aggression in a smaller tank. I hope they get along just fine as that's a nice combination of different fish.

I’m also curious now if inverts count towards that because I have a 45 gal AIO and I have

1 fire shrimp
1 cleaner shrimp
1 peppermint shrimp
1 pistol shrimp
1 pin cushion sea urchin
1 brittle starfish
1 tiger conch
2 oscellaris clown fish
1 royal gramma
1 lawnmower blenny
1 purple fire fish
1 diamond goby

and my hermits and snails.

I would setup a qt tank and do a few fish at a time to the 30g . Also think 4 or 5 fish is plenty for that size tank. Got to take in to account growing space and territory .
