I have 7 fish in my 40 breeder. Melanarus wrasse, yellow tail damsel, azure damsel, coral beauty, neon dottyback, ocellaris clownfish, and yellow watchman goby. Tank is fairly mature i have refugium and protein skimmer. Testing 0 nitrate and have no algae problems.

I want to ad another ocellaris clownfish. Would this be way too many fish? Last thing I want is a crash.

First off, that’s a beautiful tank you have! If you’re not getting any readings for nitrate and your phosphates are in check there is no harm in adding another fish, just be mindful that any new fish will need to establish itself amongst the others. Another alternative is feeding more and/or dosing nitrate. How old is the tank?

Eight 3"-4" fish in a 40b should be just fine. The only one that really needs a lot of room is the wrasse. It looks like you have plenty of hidey holes for the fish to avoid aggression and the tank is obviously mature. Seems like really nice rock.

Beautiful tank. I never had a 40b that looked that good. My vote would be to go for it. Thanks for sharing.

Jrain904, what tank is that? It looks really nice for a 40b. Is it a Cobalt C-Vue 40? That seems closest of the ones I've looked at (considering another 40b since I have a 40b cabinet sitting in our foyer with no tank on it).

I think your wrasse and Coral Beauty are going to be your main sources of bioload due to their relatively higher activity levels (the wrasse more so). But a Clownfish isn’t too bad as they tend to stay in their spot.

Tank itself is not too old. But I have some rocks that I've had for over 15 years.

My aggression is very low overall. Everyone gets a long and has a nice spot to hide if needed.

Another clown would be fine in that beautiful tank! Just make sure to get a baby and keep an eye out for aggression from your current one. Bad aggression, some will be expected. Ocellaris pair up pretty easily FME.

It is more fish than I would attempt in a 40 gallon. But if you want to add another fish, adding something that is a different guild From your previous fish. A guild is a functional group of fish. A blenny might be a good fit.
