I've been to doing research on mangroves effect aquariums and its all beneficial in the the long run, but most of the aquariums only have about 3-6 at most mangroves stuck in their systems and was just thinking to myself. If there a thing called too man mangroves? I currently have 56 mangroves growing in my refuge. All healthy leaves, big root systems and green as can be. My concern would be that having to many mangroves might be cleaning my tank to much?

My current system is a 40b with a 15gallon acrylic sump

Anyone have any experience with this or advice?

wow thats alot of mangroves i have none just a algae scrubber but wanna add some where do you order them from for a good price

Well living in Florida they're everywhere lol so I just pick them up as seeds then just let them grow in my tank

Do a web search for D2mini 200g on the web. He is a member here, but his build is located elsewhere. He has a nice bunch of mangroves...don't remember how many...but it was quite a few.

He has a nice five for sure but he only has like 6 mangroves

Dang...I see where he only has 6-8 now. If you go back in his build to the earlier stages, he has a pic of 50 that had grown quite well for him. Without going through the thread, no sure why he reduced to so few!

I have a feeling 56 is a bit overkill... They will probably run low on nutrients and start to kill eachother off. I'd say go with 5-6 and let them mature.

Well at the moment I've been trading them off to local hobbyist. So I don't intentionally mean to keep them all but was just curious.

Interesting thread...

I have 5 Rhizophora mangle in my sump & they really doing well but they are sucking up Mg, Ca & iodine to name a few params which means I have to dose additives more often. I have an 80g tank & feel I may have too many Rhizophora mangle & thinking of actually removing them but will be adding them to a shallow frag tank maybe make it a feature tank...

Wow! That's a lot. Have you noticed a significant reduction in nitrates? Has anyone that only has a few mangroves seen a major decrease? I have never tried to grow one and am interested in trying.
