@saltyfilmfolks your the expert phone lux meter expert here I believe.
How is this possible at 6" from the fixture sitting on my screen top and not frying my corals? The water level is only about another inch below the screen. The highest % is at 90% on a Maxspect RSX, and this is only 1 puck. I have 3 on the fixture.

What does that work out to in PAR? Top of my rocks in my Shallow reef is 650-700, bottom is 300-350.
 
I think it’s supposed to be divided by 60 which would be 105,000/60=1750. So roughly 1750 par?!? I doubt that’s right at 6”. My last light was a R420R and it hit iirc 46k lux at 8”.

Easy, its wrong.
A lux meter with a white ball is different from an optical sensor. (Cameras sensor ) also technically is called incenent and reflectance. so on a phone it may be reading from an ambient light sensor that may run from the camera or light sensor , the light sensor may or may not be reading incidental Light , but reflected and then interpolated by software.

A lot of folks are struggling with lux par on the seney as well for this same reason.

A director of photography carries two light meters , an incendtal meter ,to see what it hitting an object , and a reflected meter , to see what is hitting the film.

Lux and par should be what is hitting the subject.

A difficulty with phone lux may sometimes in interpolation is has on bright spot in the “picture “ so it reads to that , and averages it.
Like a photo when someone is in a shade and has bright sun behind them. That camera has to make a decision.

I’d say the led being read is 100k lux reflected.

Ok so I need to do the white paper test? I’m sorry but I’m an electronics technician and a lot of what you said kind of flew over my head lol.

Oddly for a razor that’s pretty close.
I forget , but mine inthough was 30-40k lux at 12in. When I did the conversion by 60, it matched the manufacturer specs almost dead on btw. Also on of my steps in fugung the accuracy of lux par btw.

The galactica app is one of the 15 I tested and it came out as one of the two I reccomend as I wound getting close to a real meter.

Lol. Read it twice and don’t sweat it.

Fiddle with the the thing , also use the other mode , reflectance , and set the white paper on top of the tank.

If it’s the same Light , I tested one at macna that was 50k lux at 12 in.
15k more than any other I tested.
Suggestions for a deep tank? That one. Lol.

An ap700 is 35k @ 12in btw. But amazing spread.
 
Light tolerance depends upon the zooxanthella clade - some are very tolerant of high light, others not so much. 'Tolerates' should not be confused with 'prefers' however. I monitored Hawaiian Porites corals in shallow tide pools that tolerated high light, mega-doses of UV, and, to the eye, they appeared fine. But they don't grow very large (basketball size at best) while their deeper water counterparts are as large as houses (literally.)

And a fwiw, I have a friend who is running halides on a deep tank. The top of the tank is more lux than the sun.

I’ve also seen here , folks using Light that far exceeds the “norms”, and are amazing.

A friend of mine on fb said the same thing recently. We both run SB , and I told him his actual par.

On the other hand , another friend found out he was running high as well in another great tank.
Instead of changing stuff , he put a maxima clam on the sand (@200+par).

Well the only signs would be a Red Planet is losing its green and a Milli has a lot of spread and very little up growth. The Milli is about 3 inches in diameter and about 1 inch of height. Other than that I have 2 Green Birdsnests from the same mother colony, one up top and the other on the bottom. The top one has short thick branches in a tight cluster and the bottom one has thinner branches and more of a spread. I know flow can come into play here too but my MPs are not at full blast.
 
I'm not sure of the percentages on your light and how it affects spectrum. My cheap light has only two channels - one for blue and the other for whiteso I run the blue at 65% maximum and only 5-10% for the whites. 14 hour photoperiod with the white light (5-10%) on early in the morning for about 4 hours and the rest of the day blues with lights at 1-5%. But as saltyfilmfolks said - If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
