I purchased a black clown fish yesterday since they were on sale, upon adding it to the tank I noticed that he seemed to be fighting the current a lot. He seems to be a little more comfortable today but I feel as if the current still may be too strong. Im housing in a 29 gallon with a 800 gph power head, is this too much or will he eventually become used to the tank.

I'm pretty much of the belief that there is no such thing as too much flow. What does your rock work look like?

Your clown is just fine. There is rock work for it to hide if needed.

I had a clown in an 8g biocube with a 250gph powerhead. It did the same thing, and I had the same concern. At times I would leave the powerhead off for a few hours, and he would still swim around the same way in the flow from the return. I had it in there two or three months before moving to a bigger tank with no problems

No such thing as to much flow

But there is a thing as pampered lazy fish who have no flow

There was a study done where someone autopsied dead fish from tanks with a lot of flow and ones with little flow. The fishes I believe liver(could be another organ) was a lot healthier in the tank with a lot of flow then the one with no flow. Just like humans if you make ur fish exercise they will be in better health

That's why I don't believe in feed mode they gotta hunt for there food in my tank

Thanks that's pretty reassuring cuse I have lots of flow in my tank, I thought he would be fine it would just take him a few days to get used to my tank since at the store there wasn't as much tank flow. My mom was the one who brought up the flow issue and I told her it would be fine.

Well ur at about 26 turnover an hour in ur tank unless u have a sump and a return pump then it would be more. So 26 turnover is good more would be better

I'm around 120x turnover an hour as I beleive flow is very important for corals and fish to thrive.

Don't worry the sea has more flow then we will ever be able to reproduce and our fish come from the sea.
