Too much flow? Water box 80.4 frag

Hello everyone,

I have a water box 80.4 frag that’s been running for 6 months. That’s a 48”x24”x12.4” tank. I wanted to create more flow in the tank and have an icecap gyre 1k from a previous build. I went ahead and stuck this pump on the side of the tank so the gyre is pointing along the length, covering the most area but even at the lowest setting, 10% at constant speed, not pulsating, the fish (5 lyretail anthias and a yellow tang) with the exception of 2 chronic are all hiding on the far side away from the gyre and not exploring the tank. I’ve heard of people running the gyre in smaller tanks at higher power output. Is this too much flow for my tank? Do the fish just need time to adjust to the new waterpattern? Any help is very much appreciated.

im hoping people with more experience chime in, but from what ive seen with fish and animals. Any change in the environment, can cause them to go into "safe mode". when i worked lowes years ago, i decided to bring home an empty wire wheel to make a picnic table in the yard. i took and unloaded it off the truck. Went to let the dog out, he ran out the door with his normal gusto, till he say the wheel, and slammed on brakes with tail straight up barking,. it gave me a chuckle and then it was game on.. he got his exercise barking and chasing the wheel for the next 30 minutes as i shoved the wheel and it rolling across the yard. i put a hammerhead magnet cleaner in my big tank, and the fish had a similar reaction to it. have you turned it off to see if they swim more?
