Hey guys I just recently picked up a BioCube 32. I'm currently using a Hydor Koralia 3rd Gen. 1350 GPH. Just wondering is that way to much flow? Right now I got it pointing at the surface of the water because it blowing the sand around to much. Also would it be better to use a controller with a powerhead that strong? I've attached a picture so you can see where and how the powerhead is pointing.

Thanks for your input :)

PS
Yes I'm adding more live rock ;)

First powerhead I ever got was meant for like a 40 gallon tank I remember and I put it in a 20 tall. The fish were struggling and it made the water cloudy and even the high flow corals weren't having a fun time. I'd put a controller on it or get something smaller.

Same opinion as the rest. Ive always heard of 10-20x the tank size per hour for flow. obviously more stock will be at the 20x range, less will be 10x. I have a koralia nano and a sicce 0.5 on my 10 gal, a gyre that fluctuates between 60-80% on my 40 gal and 5 koralia nano and a sicce 1 on my 25 gal. *the 25 is packed with rock and coral, the get the water moving i basically had to run many many powerheads into eachother and behind things. huge pain.

Just to update I did return that pump and went for 2 smaller Hydor 425s, and a Hydor wave controller

I think you’ll be better that way. IMO it’s always better to have multiple small ones to get more direction rather than a big one

Do u think 2 Hydor 425s would be enough without kicking up sand all over for a 40g? I currently have a jebao sow-8 and its pointed at the surface and still kicking up sand

@Cranstons12 , I have one of the gen 3 koralias and a jabao mcp-90 gyre pump going in my 50 gallon. The koralia moves a good bit of water and the interchangeable face plates do a pretty good job of concentrating or spreading out the flow in a longer tank. I can see how it would be too much for a cube tank.

I have little experience but recently bought a used system with 2 Nero 5s in a red sea 170. It's over kill. So I have em set to around 20 percent. That power head looks over kill too so I would set to lower setting if possible. That looks like a nice set up too me though. plenty flow.

I currently have(along with my jebao) 2 sicce voyager 2000 in my tank and they dont really seem to be moving alot of water so i was looking around and getting some opinions. Brs 52 weeks of reefing recommends the koralia 3rd gen. Ive also heard some mixed reviews on those so im just trying to find a set that wont break my bank and kick up a ton of sand or tick off my corals
