Hi,

I bought a Nero 5 recently for my 50 Gallon cube. This pump is quite powerful after I used it for one day. I set it 30-50% ( rated 3000GPH). After one day of use , I see half of the corals seem to suffer. Acro lose almost all the fluffy stuff and became hidden. The duncan tips became much shorter and thicker ( they are typically quite long and thinner ). The GSP tips became very thin as well though they are still open.

Are these all the signs of too much flow? I have checked ALK, CAL and Phosphate tonight , ALK is 9.1 ( seems a bit higher ) , Cal is 460, and Phosphate is about 0.02. They all look fine and there haven't been much swings. Is this solely a flow issue?

I forgot to mention, i have two Jebao OW-10 Wavemaker, I set them around 75% speed, and moved them about 4 inches from the bottom of the tank and the Nero 5 is about 5 inches from the top of the tank ( 24 inchs height ).

What mode are you running? I would start with the lowest setting on pulse mode.
You can do the same with the jebao's.
I ran pulse mode at 50% on 2 2500gph in a 18" cubed 25gal nano for 2 years.
Also put the jeabo's at the top of the tank like the nero and point one down and one towards the surface to start.
Blow off your rocks or stir the sand bed if you have one to check and adjust the flow accordingly.
Try not to have direct flow on the corals.
Bounce the flow off the glass.
Thats a start. Good luck.

wow, 50% for 25 gal, that's nice.

Yesterday I ran constant mode at 50% for 8 hours overnight, and then random mode between 30-60% with medium variation during the day time.

I am going to try tonight the pulse mode with 1% flow.
