20181010_185707.jpg I just moved these guys from a display tank. They had crappy light for about a year. They're now getting some decent spectrum via 1 hydra 26. My other softies are more than happy, but all my mushrooms have a bleaching edge. Is this from lightning? Or could it be from acclamation, or maybe just normal, since I dont know what I'm doing.

Sorry for the lighting. It's ramping down.

I’ve never seen that.
When a shroom makes it out to my sand bed (150-180 par) it usually just shrivels. Put it back in the shade and it gets big again.

#reefsquad anyone seen this ?

My shrooms have always been shaded or at sand bed level.

I have personally never seen that before with shrooms.

I do have a Superman about 3” off the sand bed, but it’s only getting 80-90 par where it’s at and is actually having a baby now!

Curious what is said here as I've never been able to keep a mushroom alive (besides ricordias) in any type of lighting.

The tank is an emergency holding tank. Aiptasia....
Theres no fish, and it's a 10g with a hob/no filter for flow and breaking surface tension.
They all did great earlier this year. 55g, 3 little fish, big skimmer and I did no WC from January to April. Everything went crazy on growth. Oh yeah, my cleen up crew is a hard-working hermit crab and one margarita snail. The corals just dealt with my cheap lights I had, but they loved all that nutrients.
Now that I think about it, I am sure I'm over powering the leds. I saw the other corals getting happy again with good lighting and finally away from those devil aiptasias and I wanted to give them more. I think I'm mistaking intensity with the new spectrum the leds are giving them. I'll reprogram to half of what Im doing and I'll report back.

I think Im going to move them to the side as well. Right now they are directly under the hydra 26 that is about 8" off the surface in a little 10g tank. I'm starting to really believe I am burning them with too much light.

Mine do that sometimes but I honestly wish death on all of them so I don’t ever pay much attention to them. Mine grow on the bottom or up high next to acros without issue.
Do they grow like gsp??

You ever need shrooms I got them:)

I think the shrooms are missing nutrients.

Test the tank to see.

I run my Hydra 26 HD's pretty high. My mushrooms grow high, low, every were.

I can also grow a mean batch of cyano:eek::D:D

They are worse imo. They spread, you can’t kill them without taking out rocks, they detach and float around and get caught in acros where they nuke everything they touch. Just awful.
See, thats not what I want to hear. I love the way mushrooms look over rocks and some have beautiful coloration. I guess Islands and I'll be proactive on pruning them on the tanks scape.
I guess it was all easy this hobby wouldn't be as rewarding.

jsker-
My shrooms are about 16" away from the light. 8" above the water and the shrooms are about 8" away from the surface.
I did look at the spectrum graph. My 2 blues are in the 40s and the white is low 30s. Everything else is adjusted relative to those numbers.

I agree with Jsker's thought. I have mushrooms in all areas. I think they would just walk if they were unhappy with the lighting.

I´m neither convinced of the rule of low lighting for mushrooms. I have hairy mushrooms in PAR for SPS, I have Ricordea in good PAR and some of the same as you in both high and low PAR. I have seen tanks with heavy SPS lighting with the same type as you have just in the upper layer - growing like …..

Sincerely Lasse

Maybe it is nutrients. It is in new tank water. I dosed a little oyster feast 2 days ago for everyone in that tank. Everyone seems happier. Now that I think about it, I guess if they were really upset, they wouldn't open up, which they are doing well. I'll check parimaters again tomorrow.
Thanks again guys.

Why is it that some people can grow certain things like weeds, while other can’t? Yet they have things thriving in their tanks.

What is the reason? I’ve yet to figure it out.

I moved my light up to 12" off the water, since I was burning up my arcos with the lights being to close to the water. I also have a better spread of the light since I raised them.
