Getting consistent readings of 300+ on the sand bed. Is this too much and should I turn the lights down? Tank will be SPS dominant.

More info needed.

I would say it's likely too much PAR. However, 300+ is only near the upper limit for sps, but if the rockscape is very low and close to the sand, it might be OK. But if your rock extends up into the water much, the PAR at those higher spots are very likely to have too much PAR.

How deep is your water?
How high off the sand is the highest point you would have a coral?
What is the PAR at the top of your rockscape?

PAR of 450 to 500, IMHO, is too high. Do you already have coral in there at these PAR levels?

Have them down low...............adjusted the lighting down to 75%. I've seen a lot of beautiful SPS under 400-500 PAR.

Then way did you ask the question in the first place!
