Hey now. A while ago I got an ecotech vector small for a 40 gallon breeder. I was wondering if that is too much pump for my soon to be tank (whenever they finish building it)?

I know it calibrates itself to your tank but I jut am not sure. Someone has suggested I run a valve on it but it just seems like having it turned all the way down plus a Valve points to me buying the wrong pump for my tank

if you are talking about the Vectra, it is a DC controllable pump and no valve is necessary. the size depends on the head height and whether you expect it to do all of the flow for your tank or if you will have powerheads doing some of it.
from the manufacturer:
"The Vectra line and their individual specifications can be found below. Please note, all models of the Vectra utilize a controllable DC motor meaning you are able to dial in your extra flow rate without the use of valves. You can even calibrate your flow rate as low as 1 GPH if desired."

I’ve got 2 MP40s on my 40br. Is it too much?, some might think so but I don’t have to max them out and push the drivers at full capacity all the time. I keep them at 60% max speed and everything is fine.
