I’m starting to wonder is this too much sand?

Should I remove some?

A little deep for my preference. But it’s your tank and your decision and there are plenty of people who run deep sand beds. If you do decide to remove some, remove a bit over time to not remove a lot of beneficial bacteria at once.

I would just remove a little at a time while vacuuming and cleaning.

For my preference, I keep my sand beds around 1”

I do like the sand. I like it more because my rocks don’t fall. I was considering removing a little bit. Maybe near my intake for my filter system ( there is a intake at the bottom and top)

The average sandbed size should be 2.5 inches or less. A lot of people say after about 3 inches or so you can build up toxic gasses( hydrogen sulfide among one of them) which can be released and cause your tank to crash. But more sand is more filter... So if it never releases the sand is helping. So it's kind of risky.
There is pros and cons to everything.

My initial reaction was that it was pretty deep. But really a personal preference. I can’t say you’re helping or hurting the tank
