I always see threads about top one or two tangs on everyone's list.

Let's focus on appearance, not practicality.

Here's my list:

Favorite tangs:
1) Achilles (I've got 2)
2) Powder blue (got 2)
3) Chevron juvenile (1)
4) Purple (1 also)
5) Yellow belly blue (1)
6) Sohal (1 now also)
7) Desjardini Sailfin (1)
8) Clown tang (just sold to allow for Sohal)
9) Blonde naso or naso (1) (depending on specimen)
10) Atlantic (Carribean) blue tang (very underrated IMO, just sold one)
11) Powder brown (1)
12) Yellow tang (1)
13) Sailfin
14) Kole
15) Convict

vlamingi tangs don't do it for me at all, neither do scopas, tomini, unicorn, black tangs, gem tangs (mostly because I'm not paying 3gs for a fish), or really any others.

I admit a gem tang is neat looking but maybe 2 or 300 dollars neat...

Some of the more rare tangs are pretty neat on a case by case basis.

What about you guys? Rank your top 10 or 15 favorites?

I would be interested to see who is almost always in the top ten!

Dussemeri are awesome but I've seen so many less than stellar. That one is stunning

what about unicorn tang?

Don't do anything for me at all. I added it to the bottom of the list of tangs I don't like. Very drab IMO. Cool shape but for such a large centerpiece fish, no color!

I really love my mimic. Wish it would not change colors. It's not super rare or anything just cool imo.

Not a big tang fan so it's pretty easy list, haha. Gem and purples are cool though.

So that is 1 and 2!

Who doesn't like tangs!?

Yeah mimic can be cool and I forgot chocolate tangs and orange shoulder. They belong up there somewhere

What has two thumbs and isn't a tang fan?

This guy!!!

Saying I am not a fan of tangs might get me banned from reef sites! Reefers seem to love their tangs for some reason (gross), lol.

LOL that's certainly not ban-worthy --- but if no tangs, what fish do you like for color, patterns, and behavior (by this I mean they are always out in the open for all to see)?

For me, it's tangs, angels, and wrasses. And probably in that order but they're all close. Angels are far less reef safe!

What fish DO you like? :D

Bump. Other opinions?

1- Achilles
2- White Cheek
3- Powder Blue
4- Powder Brown
5- Caribbean Blue
6- Convict (in a group)
7- Orange Shoulder
8- Tomini
9- Squaretail
10- Kole (Blue or Gold eye)
11- Chevron
12- Clown
13- Mimic
14- Hippo
15- Purple

As you can tell, I am not a fan of Zebrasoma tangs but I am a sucker for Acanthurus tangs. I feel although Chevrons are nice, as far as their genus is concerned you are better off with the smaller species within the genus. I also seem to only like the tangs that are more practical to keep in the hobby. None of the ones that reach 18"+

Achilles Tang
Powder Blue Tang
Powder Brown Tang
Kole
Blue Hippo Tang
Sailfin Tang, Desjardini
Chevron Tang
Blonde Naso
Purple Tang
Black Tang
And I ran out of tangs.... How do you guys remember all of these? If I saw it, I could probably name it.. but off the top of my head? No way. lol

Im a tang addict. My ranking entirely in aesthetic stand:
1. Sohal/clown hybrid- they are sick! With the dotted clown stripes
2. Dussimeiri (Hawaiian)
3. Pure clown tang
4. Desjardini (when they are darker so the gold stripes stands out)
5. Chevron (both juvi and adult are stunning)
6. Hepatus blue tang - their electric blue and freckled face are way underrated
7. Gem tang - self explanatory
8. Achillis tang- unlike many, i feel this fish is overrated compare to others agead of it on my list.
9. Vlamingi- the large adults with stringer are amazing
10. Powder blue- the kicker with this is I think as a shoal, they are stunning, but individually they dont do much for me. I like my fish with strong contrasting colors and highly saturated hue.

Great lists! I like my powder blue pair, with the Achilles and powder brown they look cool together!
