lol I feel like with all the posts in here about sump builds that I would see a bunch of folks hoping on to list their favorite items. theres so many options. I started the list with just 5 and thought it would be small. guess i was wrong lol

A heater and skimmer are all I have in there. The Litermeter I employ requires no sensors.

I’ve got a lot of stuff in there that all have their purpose. But the one thing I am obsessed with is the filter roller on my platinum, total game changer for me in both performance and husbandry. The tunze MAR is also big for me with a small in sump area and the fact i hate algae growing in my sump.

1 tank with refugium only sump and heaters and LiveRock
1 frag tank with refugium only sump and heaters and MarinePure Block/LiveRock
1 frag tank with refugium only sump, heaters, and LiveRock
1 RedSea display tank with skimmer only and heaters and MarinePure Block
1 acro display tank with skimmer and refugium and heaters and MarinePure Balls
1 All-In-One with tiny skimmer only and heaters and LiveRock
1 BioCube AIO with Refugium rack and heater

Honestly, I prefer to just do Refugium if it can support the tanks needs. Just quieter and less hassle overall.

ATO will forever be my #1 item. if the tank doesnt have stable salinity i feel like everything else gets thrown off. i would love to get a roller mat one day but i feel like its so bulky that i would need a new sump first.

i have heaters in both display and sump. i have sand and rock in both. in the sump the chaeto is home to pods, stars, and bristle worms.
I have a hermit, and lots of snails. babies from somewhere.
1. ATO feeds the system; adding into the skimmer section, float is in the return section.
2. Egg crate and needlepoint outflow from the refugium section that blocks varmints, algae and light from the 'fuge getting to the return and skimmer sections.
3. Bubble Magus curve 5 skimmer, currently off to evaluate nutrient load
4. Current USA LED light for the 'fuge
5. The above mentioned heater
6. Marineland 55 combo tank that i made into the sump
7. obvious, but because the choice makes a huge difference, Hydor Seltz vario 2400 AC return pump
8. mixing pump for movement in the 'fuge since most of the flow bypasses it.
9. backer board for mounting components, plumbing, etc.
10. repurposed aquarium background wrapped around skimmer section to further reduce light.

I am brain-breezing, as opposed to brain-storming, about the next sump. btw this picture was from the start up. the fuge looks way different now, lol think stagnant wave pool, algae on everything encrusted heater, ok i will go get a fresh picture.

as i was saying, brain-breezing, right now there is a single overflow into the center from the fuge and an over under two baffle weir from the skimmer section. these work well except during high flow some micro bubbles will reach the return pump. maybe a three baffle skimmer bubble-trap in the next one. i have both return pipes ending up underwater for siphon purposes i may experiment with having the main siphon ending above water level going into a sock. If that works there might be a sock section in the next sump.
