Top 3 Fish Choices for Frag Tank

Looking for suggestions on stocking me 40g breeder SPS frag tank. It is a bare bottom tank with about 32 lbs of rock. I'm looking for "working fish" to deal with potential pests/algae problems.

So, if you could pick only 3 fish for this tank, what would they be?

If wanting a third maybe a springeri damsel.

in a 40 gallon a blenny that eats algea would be good a sand sifting goby and maybe a fish for show as snaisl crabs do a lot of work

No yellow tangs, that's too small a tank. Mollies could be an interesting choice also.

Sand sifting goby is a no go also, due to frag tanks have no sand...

i always see a six line wrasse or a melanarus wrasse they will attack those pests for you
then a kole tang or a lawnmower blenny for algae control

If you get a Sixline, a lawnmower blenny and something for red bugs like a green clown goby- boom!

Yellow tang, lawnmower blenny and a sixline wrasse (melanurus good too but get big). As far as tang just buy a small one and when it gets too big move to another tank or trade in.

Thanks for the input so far. I was thinking about the chromis and/or damsel as a potential alternative to the wrasses for bug control. I am worried about having either a six line or melanurus wrasse since I don't have a sand bed. My daughter has a melanurus and it definitely get it's beauty sleep buried in the sand every night.

One Kole tang.

No need for anything else really unless you plan on adding frags with bugs.

My Sixline is happy in the rock. Never on the sand.

I like the springeri if you go with some damsels. Good bug eaters and play pretty well with others. A good cuc could be enough for algae control.

Would you go cuc without a sandbed? I would be concerned that they spend all their time crawling on the frags.

Yep. Trochus and nerites would be my choices. They spend their time foraging on rock or glass. Nerites like to go for walks out of the water so make sure you have a good cover.

+1 I have plenty of wrasses that do bury but the six line was one of my first fish in this tank and never seen it bury. Its more a rock lurker.
