I bought a 180 gallon tank it is 60x30x25 inches. The top brace is in bad shape so I removed it to see if I could clean it that did not work so well. Now I decided just to order a new price of glass. The glass is 1/2 inch thick 20 inches wide by 30 inches across. My question is do I need such a wide brace on the top? I have seen where the talk about 2” for every 4 feet. I am not looking at something that small but I just wanted to know my options.

You could do a small center brace with two braces on the side. The large brace won’t be a problem but getting into the tank and lighting it will be a task.

I'd put a 3" wide piece all the way around and a 4" piece in the center.

When you are saying two braces on the side is that against the side glass?

Google euro bracing. You'll see pics that'll give you great idea to work with.
