Top off of qt

There are numerous post from members that have mentioned that during a water change the new water needs to be treated with cupramine before being added to the qt. By adding cupramine to the new water before being added to the qt this prevents pockets of water from falling below the therapeutic level.

Since I top off the qt once a day I added a fairly substantial amount at a time. Does this mean that I’ve now created that same problem mentioned above? I probably add about 1/2 a cup of water at a time

If you added water to supplement for evaporation then it’s fine.

I am a bit confused by the first post.

If we are talking about adding copper to the new water of a water change before adding it to the tank I agree.

If you are adding it to the top off water you will be increasing the concentration of the copper in the tank as the copper is just like salt it does not evaporate. It stays in the water so if your tank is at the therapeutic level you are good to just top off with fresh water.

And to keep your copper concentration in the QT from varying, consider an automatic top off system instead of manual.

Ok so there isn’t an immediate concern that the fresh water that I top off with without copper is going to lower a very small area of the qt water to below therapeutic.
