I have noticed that the ph of the water in my top off climbs higher as the week goes on. Do I need a bubbler ?

I typically fill my auto top off container while I do my weekend maintenance. Once Thursday rolls around the PH in my tank is going up due to high ph in my top off. Is the food safe container leaching or is the the lack of water movement increasing the ph ? I am typically adding 1 gallon a day to my 55g and the it raises the PH to 8.6 to 8.7 late in the week.

Thoughts ?

Seems odd, although, I admit, I have never tested the pH of my reservoir... What are you storing it in, and what is the source?

The pH of pure fresh water is never any concern and won't impact the pH of the tank water in any important way.

But tap water often has a very high pH to prevent copper and lead from dissolving in pipes.

What is the supposed source of the water? and what is the TDS?

I haven't tested the TDS, I guess I should. I test everything else for each batch I purchase. Can TDS affect PH of standing water ?

TDS is nothing in particular. Or more correctly, it is everything added together. The TDS doesn't really matter except as an indicator that there may be a lot of stuff in the water. If this is tap water, or from an RO/DI with the anion binding resin depleted, the pH can be quite high, and TDS will be significant.
