I got my tank up and running four days ago (90 gallon), and was expecting it would need a top off by now. The salinity has remained unchanged from day one though. I am probably being a little OCD, but how often should I expect to do this?

It also depends on how often you run your a/c, heater and fans in the room the tank is in. I find that this time of year is the best for me. My a/c almost never turns on, it's too warm still for the heater and i dont need a fan on. I go from 9 gallons per week in evap down to just 4 in a week. Amazing huh?

Hi Meredith!
What do you use as your top off?

Especially if that evaporative cooling isn't necessary!

OP: Do you have a sump? If so, you'll start to get comfortable with the evaporation amount and know when you need to add top-off.

Crazy, I was thinking I would be adding a couple gallons every other day. So, I should just continue to monitor salinity and go from there?

The sump adds substantial volume. I bet even 5-6 gallons low you won't notice much change in salinity.

As for auto top off, the tunze unit is good, so is the one for the Apex system. I'd say mark your sump when you add x gallons to see what the level goes to for future reference.

Had to do this.. lol no worries after 10 plus years

If you don't have an ATO and your salinity is correct just put a piece of tape or perhaps draw a line on the glass right where the water level is in your sump. Anytime you notice that the water level has fallen from this line then it's time to add some freshwater. Consistency is key. GL.

I have a 90 gallon with a 30 gallon sump. Im evaporating about a gallon a day. I doubt that would change the salinity on the instruments we use, but the change is there.
