Can the glass top make a difference when you have your lights on for your coral? Will it lessen the intensity? Just curious because I have a cheapo light right now and I plan on getting a new one right after Christmas and my zoas are reaching up towards the tank because they aren't receiving the right amount of light. Hoping that if I can take the top off it will be alright until I get my new light.

It shouldn't affect it to that extent assuming the glass is clean and clear. If you have the light sitting on the glass and you have growth issues, i'd say you have a weak light. Especially considering zoas will grow under a wide range of PAR values. Always remember uncovering your tank (removing the glass) opens the window for fish to make the jump...

I have the light sitting a little above the glass. Maybe 3 inches. And yea that's what I would be worried about is the fish jumping out

If you have a square tank you can make a mesh screen cover. You can try setting the light on the glass or close to it, but sounds to me like you just need an upgrade, how many bulbs is the fixture, what type of lighting?

I haven't been in the hobby long so I didn't really think much of my light. It's an aqua top led light. I plan on upgrading to a kessil.

29g tank. I think I only paid 50 bucks for the light lol.

Good deal. Thanks!

Glass will effect it only a tiny bit. Leave the lid on. The corals will be fine till you upgrade.
What specific aquatop do you have? And what 29? whats the dim depth width?

It's a skyaqua 24. And I just have a regular 29 g not the long one if that's what you're asking. Not sure what the dim depth is though.

Check out the current marine leds or because its not a wide tank consider small t5. still low wattege and nems need good light.
