This week's topic of the week is DIY.

In this thread, feel free to show off anything DIY on your tanks....show us what you're most proud of. Give us a little story with it. We love pics!

OR

What DIY thing have you been wanting to try? Seeking advice on something DIY?

OR

What DIY thing was an epic fail that you'd like to do over?

Anything DIY goes in this thread.

Ready, set, POST!

Theres not much that isn't diy on my tank, I wouldn't know what to post. I guess I'll do a fail.

DIY LEDs I made my own for my 72g and my 125. Still using on both, although the 72g is now a QT. some circuits are not working on both, because I suck at soldering. Over time some came loose. When they were newer they worked well though and gave some decent par. But I would just buy the RB or value leds I use now, much easier.

I built my sump from scratch, I drilled my tank, Kraze hooked me up with a DIY fuge from an Aqueon HOB filter. He even made a black acrylic box that houses a bulb for the fuge. I DIY'd a filter sock holder from a piece of 4 in PVC pipe. I built the screen top for my tank. I am building the stand for my next build.

I don't DiY as much as I used to, but always build my own cabinets, all acrylic work (scrubber, socialization box, etc.), all plumbing and electrical work. Some other things just don't pay (if you include sweat equity) so only do them if you enjoy doing them. Even built my own plywood display way back when.

I made the Avast Marine CS1 U-build skimmer. It isn't pretty, but it pulls out some nasty stuff! Ok, so it came all pre-cut and with directions and even a video but it was my first effort and the darned thing still works a year later so I'm psyched!

There's certain things I prefer made by a manufacturer like a light skimmer and maybe a few others but I build my own stands drill my own tanks and do all the plumbing.

I mad e a DIY PH probe holder for my dual chamber calcium reactor. It's not my design, but it works great. I was pretty proud of it as I am definitely a mediocre DIYer

Build my stand, drilled and plumbed my tanks, built diy t5's, and have build diy leds in the past.

Haven't done any DIY work on my aquarium as of yet. But I consider myself still a newbie and I'm sure eventually I'll try a DIY project.

I've done everything from drilling tanks to building plywood tanks. I love it all. But my favorite thing has to be building LED fixtures from scratch. Runner up would be building Stands and canopies. I even build wooden fan guards to match that have over 20 pieces to them.

My DIY project that has been a great success with our reef tank is the ATO system. Behind our 55 gallon reef is the stairwell to our basement. Here I build a custom cabinet to house the gravity fed ATO container from a Rubbermaid trash can as well as some of my controls. The entire ATO system cost less than $40 and has worked flawlessly for the past 2 years.

My diy kalk reactor fail. Was a pia point of sale. Stopped dosing a wasting time with kalk after many attempts with reactors and dosing from containers.
