The biggest issue I had was the gas exchange which actually killed my two clowns I had raised for over six years. It would be a good tank if you knew what uou wanted to put in it and not ever add or change anything. And the other part is I can always put the top back on if i wanted to. I downsized so it wouldn't be as much for my wife to deal with if I needed to go out of town for a few months at a time. The top was appealing not only for looks but less salt creep evaporation and those things. But with no gas exchange, which screwed with the Ph as well, and temperature issues if filled all the way to the "rim" it just wasn't working for me. I'd already built this hood and LEDs for this one so I went with what I had. I was going to trade one of my Hanging LEDs for an 18x18x12 AIO but I just didn't get a good feal about the tank or i would have went that route.
