So my fluval evo is almost to the bottom honeycomb line and I was going to add some filtered water from the fridge, add some chlorine remover and warm it by the fireplace. My biggest concern is the salinity level though. Right now it reads 1.025. If I add some freshwater will it still remain at 1.025 and can someone explain the science to me behind that or give me a link. For some reason I can't get past the fact it's going to go down and send me into a panic. Thanks!

Picture it like adding salt to a glass of water and leaving it out in the sun, the water evaporates but the salt can't, as it evaporates the concentration of salt goes up, topping off the glass keeps it stable and so topping off our aquariums keeps our Salinity concentration and the concentration of all the other elements in the water stable.

To answer your question yes, if you top off now your Salinity will go down. If you wish to remain at 1.025 you can top off with salt water just this once and maintain that level from now on with freshwater.

On your water source, refrigerators have very small carbon filters that don't really take out much, it's not the best choice but it will work in a pinch. Heating it by the fireplace isn't ideal as you never know what tannins or impurities can land in your container, couple seconds in the microwave would be better.

Don't panic you got this
