These may seem like stupid questions but I need to ask them. I've been topping my aquarium with RO water. Do I need to make sure the PH is the same as the tank or if it's in small amounts at a time does it not matter? I had the aquarium store mention it but other sources seem to be silent on this in guides.

RODI usually has a wild pH value and more or less takes the pH of whatever you are adding it to.

Many people use Kalk with their top off which can have a pH of 10+. I would say if you are using an ATO you definately don't need to worry about the pH. If you are topping off manually just make sure you are doing it daily so you are not adding a a lot of colder, fresh water at a different pH. The temp and salinity swing is what you would really need to be cautious of.

No, you don't need to worry about it....monitoring tank ph is good, but I've never paid attention to ATO fresh water which has never made a difference IME.

I have never tested the ph of ro water, but I honestly never thought about it. I haven't had a significant ph change from just topping off the tank.
