Torch and hammer coral not opening up.

I have been told it possibly bleaches them out and also increases algae but don’t quote me.

That is interesting I did not know that will do some research in reef lighting

I have moved them both onto a higher place and in a different current I also changed to your lighting schedule but changed the to 1-5 throughout the day.

Could be flow and lighting could be the ca and alk hard to say. One thing at a time take it slow. Or they are just real shy.

The first 2 pictures were from when I just got it so maybe 1 month in the tank the third picture was as it was starting to bailout. I did lose a head so maybe that’s a reason for the torch to not be as large however it never really grew more then that.

Hard to say. I have a hammer that loves to be blasted by lower head and mid high light. But a torch that likes lower light med low flow. It's hard to say. What salt ya using to have ca and alk low? Could try some red sea pro salt. Maybee more water changes are in order. Idk how much flow? Light?

I am using Red Sea pro salt maybe more water changes I have a 120g more or less but I do only 5g water changes every week or 2. Lightning is 2 hydra 26 HD and flow is a single jebao SW 8.

I use Red Sea pro and the alk on this brand runs high so definitely would not recommend a large water change at this point since your alk is currently at 6. If you did you would get an alk swing which I learned really make corals angry. Since you are only doing a 5 gallon water change your tank is lacking trace elements too. At this point I would recommend dosing to slowly bring up your alk before you did a large water change. All for reef by tropic marine would be a good choice it will bring up your alk cal and mag and add trace elements

Okay thank you very much I will pass by my LFS and pick up something to dose depending on what they have. Also my currently lighting is taken from thespammailaccount but tweaked a little more to my liking with less white and a lot less UV please tell me if I need some adjusting.

Lighting is something I honestly know nothing about got my schedule directly from waterbox so if you ask me I would say it looks good to me but then again Lighting is not my thing

I agree do not do a large water change. but 5 gallon is no were near a 20 percent water change. you should be doing 24 gallon once every other week or every week. you do not need to dose you can up water changes gradually instead. you could do 5 gallon water change one day skip a day then do 10 gallon skip 2 day and do 13g skip 4 day then do the 24 gallon. would think that would be slow enough of a ramp up. as with light what are you using? how strong do you have it on? generally more light is worse for corals then less as a side note. if you do dose how many corals do you have? you might have to take into account the uptake to the system dose. I would suggest 1 dkh a day upping

Currently running 2 hydra 26’s on a red sea reefer 425xl 47 inches in length and 22 inches deep. Is doing a 10% water change every week good instead of a 20% weekly. I was just simply running my lights at 60-80% for blue RB and V rest in the 10% range or less. I have never dosed the tank. I have one torch one hammer and 5-10 zoas. I was told to use the AB+ schedule for hydra’s so I will be changing to that schedule and having drops and rises throughout the day.

that is super weird. wonder whats happening to the alk I have 20 corals 10 acros 10 general lps in a 40g all in one what test kit you using? I would beam 100 violet and blue and ten the rest for me personally but what you have seems good. if you can control red I would put it at zero.

Well the last time I did a water change was like December 10 or somethingother then 2 days ago. I was on vacation but the problems with the corals has been like that for a while

Going through my testing results that I have recorded I have never had higher then 400 calcium and my alk has been around 7-8 using red sea pro for calcium and the red sea test kit that the full pack for everything else

Going to buy a new calcium refill because mine is about to expire and I will pickup a mag test kit also everything else is still in date for a bit.

weird I would highly suggest when u pick up stuff take a water sample with you and ask local shop to test water just in case something is up with kit. I regularly test and water change and never been that low. jus super weird to me. could you make a cup of salt water and test that just to make sure. idk something just seems off about the mix or the test. idk.

Good news it’s it’s either your flow lighting or water quality. torch and wall hammers adjust to the flow in your tank and don’t like change. Sometimes when I relocate a torch or wall, they freak out. Some never readjust all the way.IME
