Torch and Hammer Placement

I’ve been looking at getting my first Torch and intend for them to sit in the middle section of my tank on a rock that’s all by itself. That way it has a fair bit of clearance from everything else and if it grows nicely could be a great centrepiece.

Anyway I picked up this 24K Gold Torch yesterday, and also fell in love with this Toxic Green Hammer.

I was going to put the hammer somewhere else but then the lady in the LFS mentioned that they wouldn’t sting each other as they were the same family, so I could put them in close proximity to each other.

That doesn’t seem quite right to me, and I have done a bit of looking around but can’t really see anything definitive on co-locating Torches and Hammers.

What are everyone’s thoughts on this? I like the idea of having them together as it would look cool, but I suspect it’s not going to work.

Torch will usually sting hammers.

Hammers and frog spawn okay to touch, torches will sometimes sting.

Thanks guys. Sounds like my original plan of having a torch island in the middle will work...but not a torch/hammer island!!

It’s funny with this LFS, they far and away have the best range of corals in my area, but a few times some of the advice that they’ve given has been a bit off the mark.

Good thing I’ve got R2R!!!

Yeah torch looks awesome. Just some advice. All torches cant touch. Some will kill others depending on where they came from. So be careful on your island in choices

Wow glad i found this thread, i was under impression that all euphyllia can touch without stinging.

Thanks...I love it. Not quite as impressive under my lights, but just as soon as I get my canopy finished and get my ATI Powermodule Hybrid installed, it will be much better.

Hence my R2R is great comment!!! I reckon it’s pretty safe to say that with all the members of R2R on the case, someone will have first hand experience in pretty much everything.

Now it’s just a case of thinking to ask the right question!!!

Corals are like ex-wives-axiom: When they get together, especially behind your back, you know there is very likely going to be some unpleasant interactions that may or may not work out the way you want. General corollary; all will be happier when you give them their own space.
