Ok so, I've notice my torch coral has been bleaching. Here are my specs

Currently

Under a Quad T5HO
ph 8.4
alk 8.5
Nitrites/Nitrates 0 (been like this for months)
point of sale .01
Sal 1.025
Cal 380

I originally had the torch mid way up in the tank, since moved it to the sand bed. Generally my other LPS isn't doing wonderful. I was reading that perhaps it's because the nutrients are too low. Is this likely the case as well? Can anyone give me practical advice on what to dose, how much and how often? Or perhaps some other reason?

don't start dosing willy nilly as a jerk reaction. my tank has always tested 0 for nitrate and phosphate (Salifert) and my torches and LPS are not bleaching. I'm guessing it's something else. perhaps it got too much light

I agree that making a fast decision to add something to the tank is not a good decision but if added with discression it would probably be ok to experiment and add some nitrate as if you are truly at zero its not a good thing. Alot of people run tanks with nitrate at 5-10 and have experienced increases in coral colors. If you decide to experiment and add nitrate do so very slowly and don't over do it.
Edit: as long as you have a reading with phosphates you are ok but if it's at zero you might want to feed a little heavier and see if that bumps it up. I've dosed KNO(potassium nitrate) on tanks and have had good results

What is your magnesium at?

It’s been 3 weeks since I last tested it “was” running high like 1800’s but I’ve done a few water changes since then. It should have normalized. Kind of threw out my mag test kit (lost faith in Red Sea)

Well I’m sure it’s not at true 0, just I can’t pick any up. Between the skimmer, filter socks, fuge, and 8 fish I haven’t been able to raise it high enough to read

On a side note I have a fava that appears to be bleaching as well. Short Goni has stayed closed since I got him like 2 months ago

I don’t know how long a torch would stayed bleached. I’ve been feeding it reef roids twice a week

You dosing anything for nutrient control (NoPOx, biopellets, etc)? Id first cut that back a touch. Next id prob feed a bit heavier (reef roids for PO4, could just reduce filter pad changes or skim dryer for those low nitrates if you don't want to dump extra frozen foods in there to bump up the NO3 a bit). The torches I've had issues w in the past usually had to do w nuisance algae irritating them until they finally polyp bailout or dropping nutrients too low too quick w GFO or overdosing vinegar/methanol.

Not dosing anything for nutrients. I’m up to a full cube of mysis a day. Trying to keep the diatoms in check. I’m not familiar with that method, can you elaborate?

What export methods you employing now? Total tank volume? WC volume and frequency? Any recent swings in the majors (NO3, PO4, DKH, Ca2+)?Photoperiod? Changes to photoperiod recent;y>?

Nopox, biopelets, vinegar are all forms of carbon dosing that make bacteria grow that is then skimmed out I order to decrease nutrients.

I have a fuge with chaeto, skimmer, and filter socks. Running carbon and purigen.

40b display with a 20L sump approx 50 gallons total system.

No swings, I run 2 bulbs 10a-10p and the other 2 2p-8p. The fixture sits 4” above the water level

Fuge light runs alternate 10p-10a

I would cut the fuge light to 5-6 hours and run your skimmer dry and see what happens. If that doesn't help raise your nutrients then I would dose to bring it up. Your cheato might be out competing your corals

I tried this in the past. I went ahead and lowered the cycle time, figured it couldn’t hurt.

Having a bottle Neonitro coming in today, I’ll hold off for a little while. I’ve been having to clean my glass twice a day. So maybe that’s what it needs
