Is it okay for a torch to close up at night a lot. My paramters are in check nitrates a little low but in the day it was opening up really big. It was twice the size of second pick when fully extended that is it in the morning. Ive had it two days so its settling in. I was concerned the skeleton is showing a tiny bit on one head. Do yours do that at night. I attached my paramters as well

They do tend to close up a little when the lights are off. As long as it is fully open in the day you are good
Reason i am a little concerned is i lost a hammer due to an alk swing a month ago and when it was closed up i could see the skeleton. So when i was seeing that i was a little mortified. Also about my nitrates. I am trying feeding twice a day now am using rods food. And only raised my nitrates 1ppm with my nyos test kit. It is complicated to dose nitrates. Or is heavier feeding more advisable

Torch looks ok, they will do that a night.. I would highly recommend you reduce you Alk to around 8 or so, IMO your nutrients aren’t high enough to support 10.5 dkh and that could potentially stress your corals.

Im not dosing any alk im letting it drop its been slowly going down over the course of two weeks . Thanks!

Perfectly normal. Most of my Euphyllia does close up at night, or reduce their tentacles down drastically.

If you notice any recession then try a bayer dip. When a relatively new torch started to shrink, I dipped in Bayer and several polyclad flat worms fell off even though I dipped before putting in the tank the first time. The torch recovered and I have re-dipped a couple of more times to kill any offspring. Even so, they do get smaller at night.

I was reading that they can he suspeptable to some bacteria infections. Mine is open pretty nice right now. My nitrates are slowly rising too started to feed more for my lps.

Most all coral recede and close up a little at lights out

I like to keep my nitrates below two Currently at 1 and phosphates a litter higher mine are at 0.08 In my experience my euphylia get mad when phosphates get too low I dose phytoplankton twice daily and feed at least 3 times daily heavy

I have heard of the brown gel infections, but thankfully it has not happened to me. Here is a short video of my torch. I dipped it about 5 days ago.

Wow! i wonder if mine with get even longer extension once it settles in like yours

As others have said, it's completely normal for your torch or any coral to close up some when the lights go down. I have a 4 headed neon green tipped purple torch that looks killer when the lights go on in the morning. As soon as the lights go, it closes up.

Not sure of its origin. What do you think? I love it too one of my favorite corals. It was in the not for sale section at a lfs for six months and then right before Christmas it was for sale. Paid 200 for it. My most expensive coral. Moonlight are currently on just took a picture
